To Let Go
First off the bat: I really like this one. I’ve said so before in the postmortem for A Clean Getaway, but it bears reiterating here because as always the piece I personally like the most seems to not resonate well with people.
Six of Sword is one of my favorite cards in the traditional Tarot set, and the imagery never fails to capture me.
It’s a simple and arguably well-trodden theme, with no actual “gameplay” to speak of, but the very brevity and vagueness speak to me. Multiple reinterpretations. What is reality? But A Clean Getaway had shown that I’m at my best when I’m not trying to be cute, because I always get tempted into cramming too many things into the pot and make everything muddled. For the few people who had managed to fish out the unblemished core, I proffer you my eternal gratitude. The joy in making this not for commercial purpose, afterall, is to experiment and dwell in the sheer selfishness of it.
JoshGram’s template was a joy to use and I look forward to using it again, maybe after it’s updated to work with the newest version of ink. I do wish I spent more time learning how to make the animation look better, but as-is I think it’s serviceable. I like that the effect makes it look like each item collapsed into pixel pieces.
It was a marvelous month overall, as I managed to finish two entries for Neo-Twiny Jam while working on The Butterfly Dreams (it absolutely killed me that I couldn’t write anything about that before, but now I’m free!).
