Up in the air

This doubles as a postmortem since there’s not much to say.

I came out of bitsy jam wanting to do another one-day project since it’s still holiday season in my part of the country. Browsing candle’s website, I stumbled upon flicksy again, and remembered I had wanted to make something on flickgame. Lo and behold, there is a flickjam right ahead! Later that night the Magical Girl Game Jam Discord announced Low Effort Princess Jam, which was intended to be an April Fools joke, but I knew the signs were all there.

The biggest effort I expend here was to keep it low effort. I wanted to have multiple endings, to make proper pixel arts, to… draw more, but I was actually a bit busy and not feeling well. Low Effort Princess Jam stipulated that it must be low effort, after all. It was time for the scope knife to go snip snip. I simplified a lot of scenes and decided to use whatever I already had (instead of doing a sketch-pass and final-pass). Thankfully, flickgame does lend well to limit overthinking by its pared down design.

I initially wanted to write a parody of The Little Prince (I know The Little Princess is a thing, but I’m in the mood for Fantasy). Then I saw the calendar. It was already April, so why not make yet another tribute I would never present? cough Been years since I did The Precipice.

I quite like the result, even if I wished I would stick to…simpler characters. Really. Armored knights, dragons, witches, what the hell was I thinking. Enjoy the programmer’s arts, and I hope you get a bit of fun out of this.
