Devlog #10: Free(dom)
I have decided to make the game page free again. I’ve been waffling back and forth about this, because honestly writing and making things have always been something I do for fun, and there’s an exhilarating feeling of freedom about that. While my rate of project completion is quite high, the fact that I juggle multiple jobs and projects to survive means that sometimes it takes a long time between updates. As it stands, the Spooktober version of Awayuki Tasogare is a self-contained oneshot, and one I’m quite proud of. The paid tag scares people off, and the lack of update puts me under Damocles’ sword.
Honestly? The ever-increasing push to earn something from your hobby, or reframing everything in the context of material gains and worldly achievements, is tiring me out. I’m sad, exhausted, and a little bit angry. This is not the place for the rant, but I wish I didn’t miss the deadline to Fuck Capitalism Jam.
At the end of the day what’s important is having the game played, I guess.
So what’s next?
It’s not all gloom and doom. I am fairly productive, I keep to my commitment to one jam a month, and I sure learn a lot. Very happy with how Lady Anneliese Dies turned out.
At the end of the first week of June, my work One Day would be featured in Indiepocalypse #65. It’s an honor, as I’ve always admired the kind of works curated here.
I’ll be working on another VN with Avenue Q in June. This one will be on the longer side, so we’re hoping to have the first chapter out in July/August, and the rest of it after Rheine is done with Kuloniku (please take a look if you like a cozy cooking game with zany humor!). I may have to skip Spooktober 2025 and plan for Winter Jam instead, because I do want to get back to this eventually.
If you want to support me, you can do so by tipping me directly on Ko-Fi or checking out our other games. Or just play something and comment.
Stay safe, and do not go gently into the night.
